2002 Retailer of The Year - Liquor Locker

The California Lottery announced that San Francisco's Liquor Locker, owned by Darryl Fown, has been named California Lottery's Retailer of the Year. "Dedication to their customers, involvement with the community, and focusing on promoting the Lottery with a positive attitude makes for a successful sales formula," said Lottery CEO, Joan Wilson.

Owner Darryl Fown, along with his parents, have been selling Lottery products for nearly 15 years. They have average weekly sales of $16,000 and since they started selling in 1988, total sales to date are over $7.1 million. With a minimum 34 percent of all Lottery ticket sales benefiting public education, Liquor Locker has contributed more than $2.4 million to California's public schools.

The Fowns are also heavily involved in their community. Darryl volunteers at the Golden Gate Station as a member of the coast guard and contributes money and food for the annual St. Anthony's Luncheon during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. He also teaches Tai Chi at a local senior center helps Lincoln High School students in their sports activities and, lastly, aids local schools by donating money for events such as car washes and bake sales.
