MEDIA ALERT: Preliminary POWERBALL® Draw Results for California

SACRAMENTO – New information coming in regarding tonight’s historic POWERBALL draw. There is widespread interest in this game, so even though we don’t have all of the specifics, we want to give you what information we have so that you can relay it to your viewers, listeners and readers.

Tonight we were playing for $600 million, a record jackpot amount for the POWERBALL game. While NO California ticket hit the jackpot, two tickets sold in our state did match five numbers, missing only the Powerball number. We should know later tonight how much each of those lucky tickets is worth. Considering how much money was at stake expect these winners to enjoy a plentiful payout.

Both winning tickets successfully matched the numbers 22, 10, 13, 14, 52, missing only the Powerball number 11. The winning tickets have something else in common. Both were sold at 7-Eleven convenience stores. One winning ticket was sold at the 7-Eleven, which is located at 1124 6th Street in Taft (Kern County). The other was sold at the 7-Eleven located at 2440 Almaden Expressway in San Jose (Santa Clara County).

We are still awaiting word as to whether there are any jackpot winning tickets in other POWERBALL jurisdictions. At this moment, we cannot say if the game will roll.

We will send an additional release with updated information on both the national results and the amounts scored by California’s winning 2nd place tickets early tomorrow morning.
The California Lottery reminds winners to sign the back of their ticket, keep tickets in a safe place and contact Lottery officials or visit their local Lottery District Office as soon as possible. Winners have 180 days from the date of the draw to claim prizes. The jackpot can be claimed for up to a year from the date of the POWERBALL draw.

POWERBALL is a multistate game, played in California and 44 other jurisdictions (42 states plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands). Players pick five numbers from 1 to 59 plus a Powerball number from 1 to 35. Draw times are Wednesdays and Saturdays at 7:59 p.m. PST. Tickets sales are suspended from 7:00 PM to 7:05 PM the day of the draw. Tickets are $2 and can be purchased from any of the more than 21,000 California Lottery retailers.
