Long-Time Lottery Fan Wins Big in MEGA Millions®

SACRAMENTO – We’ve all been wondering when our Nov. 9 MEGA Millions winner would come forward to claim their prize. Well, yesterday Danny Khuu finally walked into our Santa Fe Springs office with his ticket worth $165,057! Why did he wait for more than a week? It wasn’t that he didn’t know he had the winning ticket. Khuu said he simply wanted to get things in order before he turned in the claim. “Sometimes you get money and then throw it away by spending it ridiculously. I don’t want to blow it,” said Khuu.

“It was joy, but it could have been more joy,” is how he describes his win. Khuu’s ticket successfully matched the numbers 18, 22, 33, 35, 40, missing only the Mega number of 11. While his win is certainly a lot of money, Khuu admits he couldn’t help but think about what could have been. “Man, why can’t I get the last number? I just missed,” he said before quickly changing his tune. “Then I said, wait a minute. I still got a good amount!” Indeed, it is a nice chunk of money for a $1 investment. That’s what Khuu, a longtime Lottery fan, said he enjoys so much about the game. “The chance, you never know. One of those … any ticket, can win.”

Khuu purchased his ticket at Beachs Market, which is located at 8235 East Garvey Avenue in Rosemead (Los Angeles County). You could be sharing your winner’s story next. The jackpot for tonight’s MEGA Millions draw has soared to $33 million. The estimated cash value on that amount is $25,400,000!

The California Lottery reminds all winners to sign the back of their ticket, keep tickets in a safe place and contact Lottery officials or visit their local Lottery District Office as soon as possible. Winners have up to one year from the date of the draw to claim the jackpot prize. For all other MEGA Millions prizes, you have 180 days to claim your prize.
