Two Jackpots of More than $100 Million Up for Grabs this Weekend
MEGA Millions® at $103 Million Tonight; POWERBALL® Soars to $140 Million for Tomorrow Night
SACRAMENTO – Starting with tonight’s MEGA Millions draw, this weekend provides Californians with another opportunity to dream big – and with whichever large, multi-state jackpot game they choose! That’s because both the MEGA Millions jackpot AND the POWERBALL jackpot just keep on rising!
First things first – since no one matched all six numbers in Tuesday night’s draw, tonight’s MEGA Millions jackpot has grown to a whopping $103 million. This is the first time since September 2012 that the MEGA Millions jackpot has cracked the $100 million mark. The estimated cash option for tonight’s draw is $77.9 million. The California retailer who sells the jackpot-winning ticket will receive a bonus of $501,500. For reference, the largest MEGA Millions jackpot ever won was $656 million on March 30, 2012, with a cash option of $474 million.
MEGA Millions is a multistate game, played in California and 43 other jurisdictions (41 states plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands). Not to be outdone, tomorrow night’s POWERBALL jackpot has hit $140 million! Still relatively new to the game, California has sold more than $30 million in POWERBALL tickets since sales officially kicked off on April 8. No one matched all six number on Wednesday night, so the jackpot just keeps on climbing. The estimated cash value of tomorrow night’s POWERBALL jackpot is $91.3 million. The California retailer who sells the jackpot-winning ticket will receive a bonus of $700,000.
POWERBALL is also a multistate game, played in California and 44 other jurisdictions (42 states plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands). As jackpots rise, the California Lottery would like to remind players that gambling should be fun. Borrowing money to play, spending above a person’s budget or using money intended for other purposes can ultimately lead to significant problems for players and their families. If a player recognizes that they have a gambling problem or if they know someone who may have a problem, the Lottery recommends calling the Problem Gambling Help Line at 1-800-GAMBLER.
The California Lottery reminds winners to sign the back of their ticket, keep tickets in a safe place and contact Lottery officials or visit their local Lottery District Office as soon as possible. Winners have 180 days from the date of the draw to claim prizes. Jackpot winners have a full year to claim their prize.
And remember, checking the daily draw results is easier than ever. All past and current Lottery draw results can be obtained for FREE by dialing 1-800-LOTTERY and selecting option 1, or via our website at www.calottery.com.
The mission of the California Lottery is to provide supplemental funding to California schools while simultaneously supporting local communities. More than 96 cents of every dollar spent by our players goes back to local communities in the form of contributions to public schools and colleges, prizes and retail compensation. The California Lottery urges its customers to play responsibly and within their budgets. If you feel you have a gambling problem, or know someone who does, you can get help at 1-800-GAMBLER.
