California Lottery Information Officers Will Update Media on Mega Millions® Jackpot Win

SACRAMENTO – We are still waiting for the person who will split last night’s $648 million Mega Millions jackpot to come forward. Members of the California Lottery Corporate Communications Division are currently en route from Sacramento to the winning retail location in San Jose, and will update reporters with the very latest information at 11:30 a.m.


What:       $648 million Mega Millions jackpot press availability
When:       This morning, December 18, 2013
Time:        11:30 a.m. (representatives will be available until approximately 1:30 p.m.)

Here are some quick facts about the win:

• Total final jackpot amount: $648 million (2nd largest jackpot in U.S. history).
• The jackpot will be split between the winners in Georgia and California. Each winner will receive $324 million.
• If each winner decides to take the cash option, the lump sum will be $173.8 million each (before taxes)
• The federal tax rate is anywhere from 25 to 30%. The California winner does not have to pay state tax on the win.
• The winner has one year from the date of the draw to claim their prize.

Again, we will not know who has won until the ticket is claimed. We strongly encourage any Lottery winners to immediately SIGN THE BACK OF YOUR TICKETS IN INK and claim them at the nearest California Lottery District Office.
