Man Claims California Lucky for Life Ticket Worth $650,000

SACRAMENTO – Probably not many people would let a piece of paper worth nearly three quarters of a million dollars sit around the house for almost two weeks. However, John Nieblas said he needed more than one set of eyes to help convince him that this wasn’t all just a big dream!

“I didn’t know what to think. So I had to wait and have both my grandson and my son look at (the winning ticket) to tell me it was real. And when they told me it’s true, I jumped up and yelled!” said Nieblas, with a big laugh.

Who can blame him! The 63-year-old retired auto mechanic spent only a buck on his California Lucky for Life Scratchers ticket, and now he says has enough money to open his own repair shop and finally become the boss. “It’s still hard to believe to this day that it’s true.”

Well it is! Nieblas purchased his winning ticket at Family Express, which is located at 4205 E. Butler Avenue in Fresno.

The California Lucky for Life Scratchers family is part of the Lottery’s continued effort to give out more prizes, create more winners and earn more money for education. Games are available at the $1, $2, $5, and $10 price points. Each price point offers a similar play style. If you match any of your numbers to any of the winning numbers you uncover when you scratch the ticket, then you win that prize. If you uncover a money bag symbol, you automatically win the prize associated with it. And, if you uncover a LIFE symbol, you win the top prize for that game – a prize paid out weekly over the course of 25 years, or available as a lump sum amount. As you move up in price from $1 to $10, you have more chances to win and the potential prizes just keep getting higher.

Starting with the $1 game, players can win prizes ranging from a free ticket all the way up to $500 a week for 25 years or a $375,000 lump sum payment. The $2 ticket offers players the chance to win prizes ranging from a free ticket all the way up to $1,000 a week for 25 years or a $750,000 lump sum payment. The $5 ticket offers players the chance to win prizes ranging from a free ticket all the way up to $2,500 a week for 25 years or a $1.9 million lump sum payment. And finally, the $10 ticket offers players the chance to win prizes ranging from a free ticket all the way up to the grandest prize of all – $5,000 a week for 25 years or a lump sum payment of $3,750,000 – the largest instant prize the Lottery has ever offered.

The winning doesn’t stop there – like all Lottery Scratchers games, the California Lucky for Life games come with second chances to win the top prizes. Just subscribe to our 2nd Chance Program and submit any non-winning California Lucky for Life Scratchers ticket code for a chance to win.

The mission of the California Lottery is to provide supplemental funding to California schools while simultaneously supporting local communities.
