2nd Chance Wins Retiree $250,000

jorge contreras 440

SACRAMENTO – Jorge Contreras loves playing the California Lottery, especially the California Lottery Black Scratchers® game. In this case, however, it wasn’t a winning ticket that won him the $250,000 top prize, it was a non-winning ticket. Contreras simply entered his ticket in the California Lottery’s website’s 2nd Chance Program and became a big winner!

Contreras is still in disbelief about his win, telling us “I didn’t believe it, I still don’t, I’m still in shock.” He doesn’t know what he’ll do with his newfound wealth, but does say he wants to help those who have helped him in the past.

This is definitely the biggest win for Contreras, but not his first Lottery win. He remembers winning $575 about nine years ago. He bought the Scratchers ticket that eventually became a big winner at Tony’s Liquor, which is located at 5707 Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles.

Don’t throw your non-winning Scratchers tickets away! The Lottery’s 2nd Chance Program gives players a second chance to win prizes with their non-winning Scratchers ticket codes. The rules are simple – players who purchase Scratchers tickets can enter their codes on the Lottery’s 2nd Chance website at Chance for a second chance to win top prizes. Each ticket code can only be entered once.

The mission of the California Lottery is to provide supplemental funding to California schools while simultaneously supporting local communities. More than 96 cents of every dollar spent by our players goes back to local communities in the form of contributions to public schools and colleges, prizes and retail compensation. The California Lottery urges its customers to play responsibly and within their budgets. If you feel you have a gambling problem, or know someone who does, you can get help at 1-800-GAMBLER.
