Mystery Man Has Only Days Left Before He Loses Out on Nearly Half a Million Dollars!
$465,539 Powerball® Ticket Set to Expire November 18
SACRAMENTO – With the holiday season rapidly approaching, wouldn’t it be nice to have an extra half a million dollars sitting around to buy gifts for everyone on your list? Well it just so happens that’s the case for one Southern California man. Nearly six months ago, the man pictured below purchased a Powerball ticket that matched five of six numbers to win a prize worth $465,539.
The draw occurred on May 22, and since that time, the California Lottery has been waiting for the rightful winner to come forward and claim their prize. But we’re running out of time! Just last week we were able to release an image of the person who bought the winning ticket all those months ago…the man in the attached photo. Now we’re just hoping either he comes forward, or a friend or family member recognizes him and tells him he’s got money waiting for him!
Last year, the California Lottery began publicizing surveillance photos of suspected winners whose valuable tickets were about to expire. So far, we’ve connected two lucky winners with millions of dollars in prizes. Marita and Bladimir Agnite claimed their $52 million prize on August 31, 2012, while single mom Julie Cervera collected her $23 million winnings three months later in November. Both found out they were BIG winners with the help of our surveillance photo program.
If no one comes forward, the ticket will expire at 5 p.m. on Monday, November 18, 2013 and the entire prize amount will be transferred to public schools.
The winning ticket was sold at Whitley Heights Market, which is located at 1900 North Highland Avenue in Los Angeles. The ticket successfully matched the numbers 31-35-41-9-57, missing only the Powerball number of 26.
The California Lottery reminds winners to sign the back of their tickets, keep tickets in a safe place and visit their local Lottery District Office as soon as possible. Winners have 180 days from the date of the draw to claim prizes.
Powerball is a multistate game played in California (and 42 other states, plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands). Draw times are Wednesdays and Saturdays at 7:59 p.m. PST. Tickets sales are suspended from 7:00 p.m. to 7:05 p.m. the day of the draw. Tickets are $2 and can be purchased from any of the more than 21,000 California Lottery retailers. Please visit the California Lottery’s Powerball site for more information on how to play.
The mission of the California Lottery is to provide supplemental funding to California schools while simultaneously supporting local communities. More than 96 cents of every dollar spent by our players goes back to local communities in the form of contributions to public schools and colleges, prizes and retail compensation. The California Lottery urges its customers to play responsibly and within their budgets. If you feel you have a gambling problem, or know someone who does, you can get help at 1-800-GAMBLER.
