Ten Simple Words Net Auto Shop Manager $750,000!
SACRAMENTO – A San Diego County man has a pretty good story to tell after getting a substantial win on a Mystery Crossword Scratchers®. Marco Amador claimed the ticket at the California Lottery’s San Diego District Office and the 39-year-old tells us there is a lot involved with suddenly wining $750,000!
The manager of an auto detail shop was at work when he said he realized one of the puzzles on his $10 Scratchers had successfully formed 10 complete words, which is the number needed to score the game’s top prize. Amador then raced to the closest store that has a California Lottery Check-A-Ticket verification machine. “I scanned it and just stood there looking at the numbers,” Amador said. The look on his face had changed so much that a store employee even asked if Amador was okay. “I just pointed at the machine,” Amador said. “I was just kind of blank and I was looking [pale].”
Amador went back to work and says that’s when the nerves kicked in. “It was kind of hard to think straight,” the lucky winner said. After all, he had just scored three-quarters of a million dollars! “I kept wondering what am I going to do?” Amador said. “I was a little headachy, but a good headache.”
Amador said he prefers draw games like Mega Millions® or Powerball®, but a friend recently suggested he could mix it up a bit by playing Scratchers. As luck would have it, Amador got this big win after only a couple of previous tries. “I think it’s a good game. It’s a good one now,” he joked.
This story may end with Amador eventually purchasing a house with his winnings, but it started with a stop at the supermarket. Amador purchased his $10 Mystery Crossword Scratchers at the Stater Bros. located at 1048 North El Camino Real in Encinitas.
Amador respectfully declines any potential requests for media interviews or to take a winner photo. No additional information about him will be released.
