Chico Man Has to Look Twice to Believe His $1 Million Scratchers® Win

Mark Leary

SACRAMENTO – Mark Leary wasn’t sure he had won the top prize on the California Lottery’s $250 Million Cash Spectacular ticket, so he wanted to take a second look. Since there wasn’t very good light in the restaurant he was in, he explained with a laugh, “I took it in the bathroom so I could see better. It looked like $1 million to me!”

Leary said he tried to have the retailer check it yesterday, and when the machine came back with a vague message, he thought that was a good sign. “She told me to come in to the Lottery office today and claim my prize. It made for a restless, long night,” he said.

Leary purchased his winning ticket at The Studio Inn, which is located at 2582 Esplanade in Chico (Butte County). The retailer will receive a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

The $250 Million Cash Spectacular Scratchers ticket is part of the Lottery’s continued effort to give out more prizes, create more winners and earn more money for education. The oversized ticket features a unique holographic design and, in total, offers more than a quarter of a billion dollars in prizes. To play, simply match any of “Your Numbers” to any of the six “Winning Numbers” and win that prize. Uncover a “star” symbol and win $100 instantly. Uncover a “WIN” symbol and win all 20 prizes automatically! Overall game odds of winning a prize are 1 in 3.50. Odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 1.2 million.
