Homemaker Claims MEGA Millions® Ticket Worth More Than $184,000

SACRAMENTO – Liisa Orviss considers herself a “retired homemaker”- retired because her kids are grown, but of course, she is still quite busy taking care of her husband of 38 years. She is now also quite busy planning a well-deserved vacation for them both. And although they haven’t decided where they will go, they definitely will be going somewhere spectacular - especially since she won a $184,845 MEGA Millions prize in last Friday’s draw.
Orviss said she only plays the Lottery occasionally. “I’ll play regularly and then not play for a month or two,” she explained. But she did play last Friday night, and on Saturday night she heard on the news that there had been a big winner bought at Dick’s Liquor, which is where she always buys her tickets. Her husband checked the tickets and told her, “We won,” to which she replied, “NO!” They headed back to Dick’s Liquor and their win was confirmed, much to their delight.
Dick’s Liquor, the retailer who sold the winning ticket is located at 737 Pearl Street in La Jolla (San Diego County).  Orviss, who has been buying her Lottery tickets there for years says, “They are great people and they were so excited for us!”
The ticket successfully matched the numbers 47, 37, 8, 44 and 48, missing only the Mega number of 27. And since no one hit last Friday night’s jackpot, tomorrow night’s MEGA Millions jackpot will be $49 million. The cash value is an estimated $37.3 million.

The California Lottery reminds winners to sign the back of their ticket, keep tickets in a safe place and contact Lottery officials or visit their local Lottery District Office as soon as possible. Winners have 180 days from the date of the draw to claim prizes.

MEGA Millions is a multistate game, played in California and 43 other jurisdictions (41 states plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands). Players pick five numbers from 1 to 56 plus a Mega number from 1 to 46. Draw times are Tuesdays and Fridays at 8:00 p.m. PST. Tickets are $1 and can be purchased from any of the more than 21,000 California Lottery retailers. Please visit the California Lottery’s MEGA Millions site for more information.
