Big Spin Scoreboard: Husband 2, Wife 1

James CobbSACRAMENTO – For those following the score at the Bernhardt household in Glendale, wife Erica Bernhardt is the latest winner at the California Lottery’s Big Spin show. Her husband, Steven, has two victorious trips to the Big Spin in 1999 and 2004. Erika and 12 other contestants won a grand total of $222,500 this week. The show aired statewide Saturday, March 29, 2008.

Patricia VaissadeJames Cobb, a retired management consultant from San Diego, won $80,000 playing the Fantasy 5 Dream Machine. James is considering paying off debt, giving to charity and taking a trip around the world. Also playing the Fantasy 5 Dream Machine was contestant Patricia Vaissade, a retired elementary school teacher who still substitutes in the classroom from time to time and lives in Brentwood. Patricia won $70,000 and plans to spend some of that prize visiting granddaughters.

Annie Smoot, a retiree from Los Angeles, outplayed nine other contestants in Aces High and took home $30,000. She plans to spend her winnings on her family.

More than 95 cents of every Lottery dollar is returned to the community in the form of contributions to education, prizes and retail commissions. The California Lottery contributes at least 34 cents of every dollar that players spend on Lottery products to public education and returns more than 50 percent of sales to players in the form of prizes. Since its inception in 1985, the Lottery has contributed more than $20 billion to California schools out of total sales of nearly $55 billion. Retailers benefit too, earning $3.5 billion in compensation since 1985.
