Check Your Tickets -- Are you a Lottery Winner and You Don’t Know It?

SACRAMENTO – What would you do with $10,000?  Pay bills?  Go on a vacation?  Buy a hot rod?  You could be $10,000 richer and not even know it yet.

The California Lottery recently ran a promotion for their SuperLOTTO Plus game where in addition to a chance to win a normal jackpot, 100 players won $10,000.  So far, only about half of those winners have come forward to claim their prize.  The promotion was called Xtra Reward and all SuperLOTTO Plus players who purchased five or more plays on a single ticket received between one and three randomly generated, unique 8-digit numbers at the bottom of their ticket.  Xtra Reward numbers that matched those drawn by the California Lottery won $10,000.  The promotion ran from August 1 through September 1, 2007.

“This promotion was a great opportunity to reward SLP players with an additional chance to win $1,000,000 in prizes, however, only about half that has actually been claimed,” said Lottery Director Joan Borucki.  “We’d like our players to check their tickets to help us find the remaining winners.  We have $10,000 waiting for them!”

The California Lottery also wants to remind players to sign the back of their tickets and if players find they are a winner, please put the ticket in a safe place and contact Lottery officials or visit the local Lottery District Office (http://www.calottery.com/AboutUs/Locations) immediately. Winners have 180 days from the date of the draw to claim their prize.

The California State Lottery contributes at least 34 cents of every dollar that players spend on Lottery products to public education and returns more than 50 percent of sales to players in the form of prizes. Since its inception in 1985, the Lottery has contributed more than $19 billion to California schools out of total sales of more than $52 billion. Retailers win too, earning $3.3 billion in compensation since 1985.
