SACRAMENTO – “This morning we received a response from the Court acknowledging our efforts to resolve the final issue in the MEGA Millions lawsuit,” said Lottery Director Joan Borucki. “We are pleased that the Court also recognized that the current legislation sponsored by the California Lottery would address the Court’s concerns. The Court subsequently granted the California Lottery additional time to work with the Legislature on this important issue." Borucki went on to say, "MEGA Millions is a valuable asset to California, generating over $345 million in supplemental funding for California schools since its introduction in California in 2005.”
On September 12, 2007, the Court issued an order extending the time for compliance with the preemptory writ by eight months. In the order the Court noted that, “The [California Lottery] is making good faith efforts to comply…” and that, “…the enactment of Assembly Bill 1251 would accomplish [addressing the Court’s concern].”
