Great Grandmother Follows Her ‘Feeling’ and Wins $100,000

Frances YatesSACRAMENTO – Contestants sometimes get a “feeling” they should buy a lottery ticket or have a dream they are going to win a prize. On this week’s The Big Spin® Show, one contestant’s “feeling” paid off with a $100,000 windfall. With this week’s contestants winning $197,500 in cash prizes, you can imagine that more players will start paying attention to their feelings, dreams, premonitions and predictions. The show aired statewide Saturday, October 14, 2006.

Frances Yates, a retiree from Bakersfield, recently had her first great grandson. When that happened she had a “feeling” she should buy a Big Spin Scratchers® ticket. Luckily, she didn’t ignore her premonition and bought four tickets, one for each of her children. The fourth ticket was the one that got her on to The Big Spin where she outplayed nine other contestants for a chance to spin the largest lottery prize wheel in the world. Once there Yates won $100,000. The doting great grandmother is planning on spoiling herself for a change and buying a new car in addition to donating money to her church.

Hubert OldsHubert Olds, a retiree from Seaside, was very excited when he won $55,000 on the Fantasy 5 Dream Machine and knew exactly where the money would go. “I don’t have any plans for it, but I’m sure my wife and daughter have plenty, I’ll let them spend it.” What a great guy!

Jeff Freed, an employee at a tire and auto repair business from Santa Rosa, is a big fan of the Lottery. “I’ve been playing since it started in 1985,” explained Freed. All he wanted to win was enough to cover the postage he spent to send in his Fantasy 5 coupons, one of which earned him a trip to the show. With his $20,000 prize it’s clear he accomplished his goal, and then some!
