SACRAMENTO – As Californians relax today celebrating America’s birthday among fireworks, food and fun, the California State Lottery is preparing to award a $106 million prize in tomorrow’s SuperLOTTO Plus® draw. What better way to cap off a national holiday than winning more than a hundred million dollars?
Tomorrow’s jackpot will be the largest in the world and the 6th highest prize offered in the California State Lottery’s 21 year history. The largest SuperLOTTO Plus jackpot ever was $193 million on February 16, 2002, split by three winning tickets bought in Half Moon Bay, Montebello and Orange County.
To celebrate, the winner might want to put on the world’s most spectacular fireworks show. The annual Macy’s July 4th Fireworks Spectacular, featuring 20,000 aerial shells, 120,000 bursts of pyrotechnic color and millions of spectators on NBC, is produced with an estimated budget of $750,000. With $106 million, you could put on 141 similar fireworks displays, one every night for four months straight.
Education and retailers will have cause for celebration too. Education sees 34 cents of every ticket sold and with a jackpot of this size that means approximately $63 million will go to our schools. Also, the retailer who sells a single winning $106 million ticket will receive a $530,000 bonus. This past year, the California Lottery contributed over $1.2 billion to public education and has provided more than $1 billion annually to California schools for the last six years.
SuperLOTTO Plus can be played at approximately 18,500 retail businesses around California. The SuperLOTTO Plus draw takes place each Wednesday and Saturday night at 7:58 p.m. Players may purchase tickets until 7:45 p.m. on the night of the draw.
