SACRAMENTO – Californians woke up Sunday not only anticipating America’s 230th birthday celebration but also the largest lottery prize in the world as California State Lottery officials announced that the SuperLOTTO Plus® jackpot has rolled to $106 million for Wednesday’s draw.
It’s only one day away from our nation’s birthday and only two days away from a SuperLOTTO jackpot draw for $106 million, the highest California Lottery jackpot players have seen in four years. The jackpot has rolled over 23 times, an all-time California record, and the current amount surpasses even MEGA Millions or Powerball.
As the night of the draw nears, it is predicted that Californians will stand in lines at their local convenience store for more than hot dogs and hamburger meat. It is food for thought that the jackpot is enough to buy 212 million Oscar Mayer hot dogs, 42 million pounds of ground beef or 21 million watermelons for a spectacular holiday extravaganza.
Education and retailers will have cause for celebration too. Education sees 34 cents of every ticket sold and with a jackpot of this size that means approximately $63 million will go to our schools. Also, the retailer who sells a single winning $106 million ticket will receive a $530,000 bonus. This past year, the California Lottery contributed over $1.2 billion to public education and has provided more than $1 billion annually to California schools for the last six years.
SuperLOTTO Plus can be played at approximately 18,500 retail businesses around California. The SuperLOTTO Plus draw takes place each Wednesday and Saturday night at 7:58 p.m. Players may purchase tickets until 7:45 p.m. on the night of the draw.
