SACRAMENTO – The conventional saying is “Another day, another dollar”, but for The Big Spin® show, it’s “Another day, another quarter million dollars” as this week’s contestants took home more than $247,000 in cash prizes.
One of the big winners of the night was Dan Johnson, of La Quinta, a supervisor at a cabinet shop. He won $85,000 playing the Fantasy 5 Dream Machine, which turned out to be the perfect birthday gift. “I got the notice around my birthday and just couldn’t believe it. It couldn’t have turned out any better,” he said after his win. With his winnings, Mr. Johnson plans to take a cruise to the Bahamas with his wife. When asked if the whole family would be tagging along for a vacation, he replied with an emphatic “No!” but added that his children might be getting the new cars they wanted.
Julieta Martinez, of Santa Maria, is $50,000 richer after a fortunate turn of The Big Spin wheel. The windfall, however, hasn’t changed the work ethic of Ms. Martinez, a widow, who juggles three jobs as a caregiver by day, a worker in a frozen food factory by night and an owner of a boarding house for the homeless. When asked if she might take it easier in light of her cash prize, Ms. Martinez replied, “I wish I could but I need to continue to help people.” She plans to use her winnings to help the homeless, her church and her aunts.
The other big winner of the week was , from Santa Ana, who won $90,000 after outplaying nine other contestants on Aces High to spin The Big Spin wheel.
