Friday’s Jackpot is Largest Yet, in 2006
SACRAMENTO – California State Lottery officials announced today that the MEGA Millions jackpot has been increased to $203 million after no one matched Tuesday’s winning numbers.
“Having a jackpot in excess of $200 million makes it a very exciting time to be in California,” said Mike Doyle, spokesperson for the California State Lottery. “The draw is Friday night but buy your tickets early unless you enjoy standing in line with your neighbors.”
Since MEGA Millions began, we have had three MEGA Millions jackpots won in California, including the historic $315 million jackpot won on November 15, 2005. With all prizes combined, California has sold more than 7.1 million winning MEGA Millions tickets resulting in total winnings of $470 million. California schools receive at least 34% of all lottery sales and have benefited by more than $1 billion annually from the California State Lottery for the past five consecutive years.
