SACRAMENTO -- Lottery officials announced the SuperLotto Plus jackpot for Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at $56 million. “It’s great ringing in the new year with a $56 million jackpot,” said Lottery spokesperson Mike Doyle. “The best news is that public schools will receive nearly $30 million from the sales that make this jackpot possible.”
A single jackpot winner of $56 million who chose the annuity option would receive 26 annual payments. The first payment would be approximately $1.4 million and the 26th payment approximately $2.856 million before taxes. A single winner who chose the cash option would receive roughly half of the announced jackpot which is equal to the amount the lottery would invest to pay-out the jackpot prize over 26 years.
SuperLotto can be played at approximately 18,500 retail business establishments around the state. The SuperLotto draw takes place each Wednesday and Saturday night at 7:58 p.m. Players may purchase tickets until 7:45 p.m. on the night of the draw.
NOTE: The lucky winner who bought their ticket at Garfield Liquor in Montebello has yet to claim the $88 million MEGA Millions prize from Friday, December 30, 2005.
