THIRD TIME’S A CHARM -- CALIFORNIA HAS ITS 3RD MEGA MILLIONS JACKPOT WINNER, WINNING TICKET SOLD IN MONTEBELLO

Second Tier Prize Also Sold in California, $226K Winner Sold in San Marcos

SACRAMENTO – California State Lottery officials are excited to announce that California has sold its 3rd MEGA Millions jackpot ticket!  Last night’s winning combination of 14, 20, 25, 40, 44 and the MEGA number 37 was sold at Garfield Liquor in Montebello.  The $88 million jackpot prize was won by one lucky ticket, although it is not yet known if that ticket is owned by a single winner or a group.

The second tier prize winning ticket was also sold in California at the am/pm in San Marcos located at 125 N. Rancho Sante Fe Road.  That ticket is worth $226,840.

If the winner chooses annual payments, they will receive equal payments of approximately $3.3 million a year (before federal tax withholding) for the next 26 years.  A winner has the opportunity to choose the cash value of their jackpot prize within 60 days of the claim date.  The winning retailer location is Garfield Liquor located at 2433 W. Whittier Blvd. in Montebello, CA.  This retailer will receive a bonus of $440,000 for selling the winning ticket.  Winners have 180 days from the date of the draw to claim their prize.

On November 15, 2005, the California State Lottery made history when it sold the biggest cash prize in North American lottery history, a $315 million MEGA Millions jackpot.  The ticket was sold in Anaheim.  A group of hospital workers called the “Lucky Seven” took the cash option and each received a lump sum payment of approximately $25 million (before federal withholding).  When asked how she felt on winning the Lottery, Kate Lyn Juergens, one of the “Lucky Seven” who won $315 million said with a huge smile, “How can you possibly explain how great it feels to win $315 million!”  Another one of the “Lucky 7” Jennifer Habib said, “You can’t win if you don’t play.”
