CALIFORNIA’S MEGA MILLIONS® PLAYERS WIN IN MANY WAYS

SACRAMENTO – Lottery officials announced that MEGA Millions® players from California have not only won the jackpot prize twice, but the second tier prize 38 times. The second tier prize is won by players who match five out of five numbers with out matching the MEGA number.

One of the most recent second tier prizes awarded was from the draw on Tuesday, December 13, 2005 and was worth $812,500 but it was not the largest.  On August 9, 2005, the second tier prize of $1.4 million was won by one lucky Californian.

“MEGA Millions gives you nine ways to win and more than 5 million California players have won a total of more than $368 million,” said Lottery spokesperson Mike Doyle.  “Tonight’s MEGA Millions draw is worth $64 million and tomorrow night’s SuperLOTTO Plus® draw is worth $44 million.  Wouldn’t one of those prizes be a great Christmas present?”

The largest MEGA Millions prize awarded in California, so far, was the $315 million jackpot prize which was won by the “Lucky 7” on November 15, 2005.
