SACRAMENTO – On November 26, 2005, Lynne Kubisch, a volunteer from Redding, was presented with the California State Lottery's “Heroes in Education” award on “The Big Spin®” show.
For more than 21 years, Ms. Kubisch has been a volunteer at Turtle Bay Elementary School in Redding. She helps out at least nine different teachers by putting in full-time hours on a regular basis. She begins her day at 6:30 a.m. before the faculty and students arrive to deliver mail to the classrooms, to make copies of assignments and to drop off papers that she graded at home. Once the bell rings, Ms. Kubisch goes to work on any number of projects given to her by the teachers. Her unconditional assistance makes it possible for these instructors to devote more time toward preparing lesson plans and giving more one-on-one attention to their students.
On hand to honor Lynne Kubisch was actress, Aloma Wright, who has appeared in such films as Bring It On, Mr. Deeds, Johnson Family Vacation and most recently The Gospel. She also plays Nurse Lavern Roberts on the hit television show, Scrubs.
The California State Lottery’s “Heroes in Education” award has been presented monthly on “The Big Spin®” show, since 1999. The Lottery partners with celebrities to present these awards, which recognize special individuals who volunteer time and resources to their schools and communities.
