Assemblymember Rudy Bermudez Presents “Exceptional Educator” Award to Norwalk Teacher

SACRAMENTO – “The Big Spin®” show aired Saturday, May 7, 2005 and featured Ken Elisaldez of Norwalk who received the Lottery’s “Exceptional Educator” award from Assemblymember Rudy Bermudez of NorwalkSACRAMENTO – “The Big Spin®” show aired Saturday, May 7, 2005 and featured Ken Elisaldez of Norwalk who received the Lottery’s “Exceptional Educator” award from Assemblymember Rudy Bermudez of Norwalk.

In 1996, Elisaldez decided to become a teacher because he felt teaching would make the most positive impact on society. Elisaldez is now a third grade teacher at Sanchez Elementary School in Norwalk and he puts into action his philosophy to teach with both his heart and his mind. With his mind, he approaches teaching in a scientific manner enabling him to assess in a measurable way. With his heart, he’s able to understand the depths of the needs of each student and implement an effective lesson plan to meet those individual needs.

Although Elisaldez sees teaching as serious work, he considers his classroom a welcoming, nurturing environment with equal parts, work and play. The play happens to be educational where games turn into math lessons and magic tricks become launch pads for science concepts. It’s through his tireless efforts that each of Elisaldez’s lessons engage his students, helping them to be successful in school, so in turn, they can be successful in life.

The California Lottery’s “Exceptional Educator” award has been presented on “The Big Spin®” television show since April of 2001. The Lottery enlists legislators and state officials to present these awards which recognize outstanding teachers whose extraordinary efforts help California students to succeed.
