SACRAMENTO – Twenty-one California Lottery players from across the state combined their luck to win $280,000 on “The Big Spin®” show that aired Saturday, May 14, 2005.
From the first group of contestants to play “Aces High,” John Andre from San Clemente won the opportunity to spin the wheel. Andre, a delivery truck driver, spun the wheel for $100,000 and said, “I was very excited when I found out I was coming to the show!” Andre plans to buy a Harley Davidson motorcycle with his winnings. Andre purchased his Big Spin Scratchers® ticket at Dads Liquor & Deli in San Clemente.
When ten more “Aces High” contestants competed, Earl Couey, a retiree from Santa Rosa emerged victorious with an opportunity to spin the wheel. Couey, who bought his Big Spin Scratchers® ticket at Stony Point Liquor in Santa Rosa, spun the wheel for $90,000 and said, “It was a nice experience that my family and I shared! Therefore; I’m sharing my winnings with them.”
The first player to challenge the “Fantasy 5 Dream Machine” was George Stewart, Jr., a retiree from San Francisco. Stewart plays Fantasy 5 at a New Lite Market in San Francisco. “My family and I had fun and I hope to return to the show,” he said after winning $30,000. Stewart plans to make home improvements with his winnings.
Finishing the show was a “Fantasy 5 Dream Machine” contestant, Zandy Cabrera, a nurse from San Diego. Ms. Cabrera, who won $25,000, bought her ticket at Carnival Supermarket in National City, and plans to invest her winnings towards her retirement.
