California State Lottery Announces
National Problem Gambling Awareness Week March 6-12

Sacramento--The California State Lottery kicks off a statewide campaign March 6-12, 2005 that raises awareness about the resources available for individuals and their families affected by Problem gambling. “This is part of a national effort to increase public and professional awareness of this issue,” said Chon Gutierrez, Interim Lottery Director. “Our goal is to spread the word that there is help available for those impacted by problem gambling.”

The public awareness effort is sponsored in collaboration with the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG), the California Council on Problem Gambling (CCPG) and the State of California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs (ADP). The statewide campaign includes public service announcements that will air on television, radio and be available on the California State Lottery’s website, www.calottery.com. Information regarding problem gambling warning signs will be available in both English and Spanish. Also featured on the Lottery’s website will be links to NCPG, CCPG and ADP. Additionally, more than 18,000 Lottery retailers will have brochures which highlight problem gambling warning signs and will note the Lottery’s toll free helpline 1-888-277-3115.
