SACRAMENTO – “The Big Spin®” show aired Saturday, November 27, 2004 and featured Bill Cornett of Glendora who received the Lottery’s “Exceptional Educator” Award from Assemblymember Dennis Mountjoy.
Since 1993, Bill Cornett has truly made a difference in the lives of his technology students at Citrus Community College in Glendora. The fact that Cornett does not teach your typical technology class is very impressive.
Cornett teaches one of only two existing programs in California geared towards diesel technology. His students learn skills in the classroom and apply it in a hands-on environment where they learn to build and maintain diesel trucks. Cornett not only works with adult students, he also instructs students ages nine through thirteen in his “College For Kids” summer program that he helped establish in 1994. With diesel trucks being an important part of our industrial nation, Cornett’s efforts help ensure the next generation continues to be a component workforce in America’s vital transportation industry.
The California Lottery’s “Exceptional Educator” Award has been presented on “The Big Spin®” television show since April of 2001. The Lottery enlists legislators and state officials to present these awards which recognize outstanding teachers whose extraordinary efforts help California students to succeed.
