SACRAMENTO, October 28, 2004 --The race is on! It’s a horse race to see who wins California Lottery’s third largest Daily Derby prize in history. Up for grabs is a Grand Prize of $817,000 to be won by the player that matches in exact order the winning race time and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place horses. Daily Derby combines the excitement of horse racing with the fun of playing a Lottery game. It also includes the excitement to win at least twice on a ticket for a top prize of hundreds of thousands of dollars.
To play Daily Derby, players simply pick their favorite horses by name or number and then pick the race time. Players can play every day of the week and must make their picks by 6:30 p.m. Players can also let the computer randomly select their horses or race time by taking advantage of the Quick Pick feature.
The player matching in exact order the winning race time and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place horses wins in the '”Grand Prize” category. If no one matches the Grand Prize, the prize money rolls into the next day's Grand Prize. Players can also win twice on one ticket if they match the following: Win and Race Time-and Exacta and Race Time.
In October 2002, Bill Copeland won the largest Daily Derby jackpot (over $1 million) in California Lottery history. Mr. Copeland won after buying his ticket at Bluebird Liquor in Hawthorne, California.
