"Crossword," The California Lottery's Newest Scratchers® Ticket Features a $20,000 Top Prize!

SACRAMENTO, July 28, 2004 – With the introduction of the newest “Crossword” Scratchers game, Californians now have another choice at the many entertaining Scratchers in the Lottery’s product line.  Featuring a top prize of $20,000, the latest $3 game will allow players to enjoy the familiar game theme they grew up with.  “If you enjoy the excitement of a traditional crossword game, then this new twist on an old favorite should challenge the best,” said Dennis Sequeira, Interim Director of the California Lottery.  “Make the most of the time you have to pass this summer at airports, bus terminals, and train stations, play the Lottery’s ‘Crossword’ Scratchers ticket - - it’s the right game at the right time.”

HOW TO PLAY:  Scratch “YOUR LETTERS” one at a time to reveal a total of 18 letters.  Scratch each letter in the “CROSSWORD PUZZLE” that matches “YOUR LETTERS”.  (Letters may appear more than once.)  Uncover two or more words in the “CROSSWORD PUZZLE” and win corresponding prize shown in the prize legend.  Prizes range from winning a free ticket to the top prize of $20,000.  Overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 3.58.   Some prizes, including the top prize, may have been claimed after game starts.

“Crossword” Scratchers can be purchased at any of the 18,000 Lottery retailers in California.  The introduction of this latest Scratchers game comes at the end of Lottery’s fiscal year 2003-04, where over $1 billion was contributed to public education for a fourth consecutive year.
