Assemblymember Robert Dutton Presents "Exceptional Educator" Award to Upland Teacher

megawSACRAMENTO – “The Big Spin®” show aired Saturday, July 10, 2004 and featured Andy Megaw of Upland who received the Lottery’s “Exceptional Educator” Award from Assemblymember Robert Dutton.  Mr. Megaw is a third grade teacher at Valencia Elementary School in Upland.  As a technology lead for the school, it’s his job to design and implement lesson plans that use technology to teach valuable skills the students will use throughout their lives.

Mr. Megaw’s students use their technical knowledge to present scientific results and research findings using Powerpoint presentations.  By using technology in the classroom, he is able to give his students a positive experience and a sense of accomplishment which increases their self-esteem. This keeps each and every one of them engaged and eager to learn more.

The California Lottery’s “Exceptional Educator” Award has been presented on “The Big Spin®” television show since April of 2001.  The Lottery enlists legislators and state officials to present these awards which recognize outstanding teachers whose extraordinary efforts help California students to succeed.

The California Lottery is proud to have achieved the public’s mandate of providing supplemental funding to education in fiscal year 2003-04 by contributing over $1 billion to public schools for the fourth consecutive year.
