Hemet Man Wins $1 Million on “The Big Spin®”

SACRAMENTO – California Lottery players from across the state won a total of $1,247,500 on “The Big Spin®” show that aired Saturday, March 20, 2004.

Rafael Jaurigue, a landscaper from Hemet wins $1 million!Rafael Jaurigue, a landscaper from Hemet won $1 million!  After spinning the largest lottery wheel in the world, Jaurigue said in disbelief, “It’s a great feeling to know that I can now help my family.  It’s also great to be able to be free from debt.”  Jaurigue purchased his Big Spin Scratchers® ticket at Stanford Liquor in Hemet and found Spin-Spin-Spin when he scratched it. 

Kevan Taber, a hatchery worker from Salinas won $80,000 and was the first contestant on this week’s show to play “Fantasy 5 Dream Machine.”   Taber, who purchased his ticket at Patton’s Market in Chualar, said, “I plan to buy my wife a new horse trailer and pay off bills with my winnings.”  The other “Fantasy 5 Dream Machine” contestant was Virginia Mauna, a retiree from Monterey Park who won $70,000.  “I plan to buy a new car and travel to Hawaii with my prize money,” said Mauna.  She purchased her ticket at Country Home Tobacco in Monterey Park.

Patricia Pettiford from San Bernardino spins the wheel for $75,000Patricia Pettiford from San Bernardino and Hermelinda Magaña of Colton were the two winners in the first round of “Aces High.”  In round two, Pettiford won a chance to spin the wheel, while Magaña won $5,000.  Pettiford, who bought her Big Spin Scratchers® ticket at Last Drop Liquor in San Bernardino, spun the wheel for $75,000.  Pettiford said, “I’m going to use my prize money to help my church and buy a car.”

“The Big Spin®” show is just one of the many entertainment choices the California Lottery offers that ends up paying big to players and ultimately to California’s public schools.  For a third consecutive year, the Lottery has contributed $1 billion to public education.

How to play “Fantasy 5 Dream Machine”
Contestants on the “Fantasy 5 Dream Machine” game have up to five chances to launch a ball toward one of the five bins in the pinball-type game.  Each bin represents a cash amount.  One, three, five balls in a bin earns you that amount, while two or four balls in a bin deducts the amount.  Contestants appearing on this segment qualify by mailing an entry form to the Lottery after purchasing $5 of Fantasy 5 games on one playslip.

How to play “Aces High”
“Aces High” replaced “California Gold” and is the newest game on “The Big Spin®” show.  In round one ten “Aces High” contestants will either win a dollar amount ranging from $1,750 to $4,000 or get one of two “Ace” cards.  The two contestants who end up with an “Ace” card advance to the second round.  The object of the second round is to get a better hand than the opponent, the best hand being four of a kind.  The contestant with the lower hand wins $5,000 and the contestant with the higher hand goes on to spin the wheel and a chance to win $3 million!
