Assemblymember Lloyd Levine Presents Lottery’s “Funds At Work” Award to United Teachers Los Angeles

SACRAMENTO – “The Big Spin®” show, airing this Saturday, February 28, 2003, will feature Assemblymember Lloyd Levine who will present the Lottery’s “Funds at Work” Award to United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) Institute for Curricula and Assessments.

UTLA has resourcefully “put to work” Lottery funds by establishing a lesson design study program dedicated to creating the most effective lessons and assessments for students district wide.  Developed by teachers, the program is designed for teachers to become better and more effective in the classroom.  The teachers collaborate in a professional environment to develop effective lessons to enable students to achieve California’s performance standards in education.  The program’s goal is to continually improve lesson plans in a systematic way to help teachers engage their students.  Better lessons create better students, resulting in higher academic achievement—the ultimate payoff!

The California Lottery’s distinguished Lottery “Funds at Work” Award has been presented on “The Big Spin®” television show since April of 2001.  The Lottery enlists various Legislators to present these awards which recognize public schools and school districts that have made innovative and extraordinary efforts using their supplemental Lottery funds. This week’s show aired Saturday, February 28, 2004, in 12 television markets statewide.
