SACRAMENTO – Thirteen California Lottery players from across the state won a total of $257,500 on "The Big Spin®" show that aired Saturday, February 14, 2004.
Nancy Bonilla from San Pablo and Joshua Goodman of Merced "Came up Aces" in the first round of "Aces High." In round two, Goodman won a chance to spin the wheel, while Bonilla won $5,000. Goodman, who bought his Big Spin Scratchers® ticket at Circle "G" Mini Mart in Merced, spun the wheel for $75,000. He told Lottery staff, "I'm going to use my prize money to pay off bills and maybe buy a house for my mother."
Wayne DeShaw, a business owner from San Jose, won $70,000 playing the "Fantasy 5 Dream Machine." DeShaw, who purchased his ticket at C & L Liquors in Campbell, said, "I plan to go on a Hawaiian vacation with my winnings." Gabriel Portugal from Canyon Country was next to challenge the "Fantasy 5 Dream Machine," and won a $65,000 prize. Portugal, who bought his ticket at Arco Gas & Minimart in Panorama City, told interviewers, "I'm going to invest my prize money."
Joan Corboline from San Jose purchased her Big Spin Scratchers® ticket at 7-Eleven in San Jose and scratched it to find the "Spin-Spin-Spin" symbol. Corboline's lucky find gave her the opportunity to spin the largest lottery wheel on the planet. Corboline immediately knew that winnings of $25,000 would go towards her grandkid's college fund. "I plan to open a trust fund for my grandkids with my winnings," Corboline said
Exceeding its mandate to provide 34% of Lottery revenues to public education, in Fiscal Year 2002/2003, the California Lottery contributed $1 billion to public schools, for a third consecutive year.

How to play "Fantasy 5 Dream Machine":
Contestants on the "Fantasy 5 Dream Machine" game have up to five chances to launch a ball into one of the five bins in the pinball-type game. Each bin represents a cash amount. Prizes are cumulative, but only one ball may land in each bin to claim the prize amount. Contestants appearing on this segment qualify by mailing an entry form to the Lottery after purchasing $5 of Fantasy 5 games on one playslip.
How to play "Aces High":
"Aces High" replaced "California Gold" and is the newest game on "The Big Spin®" show. Ten "Aces High" contestants will either win a dollar amount ranging from $1,750 to $4,000 or get one of two "Ace" cards. The two contestants who end up with an "Ace" card advance to the second round. The object of the second round is to get a better hand than the opponent, the best hand being four of a kind. The contestant with the lower hand wins $5,000 and the contestant with the higher hand goes on to spin the wheel, for a chance to win $3 million!
