SUPERLOTTO PLUS JACKPOT RISES TO $86 MILLION: California Lottery Boasts Largest Jackpot in the Nation

SACRAMENTO, January 2, 2004 – California Lottery officials have announced the SuperLotto Plus jackpot for Saturday, January 3, 2004 has increased to $86 million. "Being the largest jackpot in the nation makes it an exciting time to be in California," said Tony Molica, Lottery CEO. "Starting the New Year off by contributing more than $52 million to California's public schools is a great way to begin 2004." The year 2003 marked the fourth consecutive year that the California Lottery contributed over a billion dollars to public schools in California.

A single jackpot winner who chooses the 26 graduated annual payments would receive approximately $2,150,000 the first year and those payments would graduate to $4,386,000 by the 26th year (before taxes). A single jackpot winner who chooses the cash option would receive the estimated cash value which is roughly half the announced jackpot or $43 million (before taxes). There are no state or local taxes on California Lottery prizes.

The retailer who sells a single winning $86 million ticket will receive a $430,000 bonus. SuperLotto Plus can be played at more than 18,000 retail business establishments statewide. The SuperLotto Plus draw takes place each Wednesday and Saturday night at 7:58 p.m. Check your paper for your local station listing.
