Assemblymember Judy Chu Presents "Exceptional Educator" Award to Rosemead Teacher

SACRAMENTO – "The Big Spin®" Show, airing this Saturday, December 20, 2003, will feature Assemblymember Judy Chu who will present the Lottery’s "Exceptional Educator" Award to Pat Kasababian from Rosemead.

Ms. Kasababian is a veteran teacher at Garvey Intermediate School in Rosemead whose dedication spans over 30 years. She is active in all aspects of the education community. Whether it is mentoring other teachers, chairing academic committees, or spearheading the school’s community service events, Ms. Kasababian is always helping out and making a difference.

Having taught almost every school subject, Ms. Kasababian is best known for the success of her students in Social Science competitions. She spends countless hours outside of school coaching and grooming students to compete on the mock trial team. This team has proven over the years to be a major contender among the more than 30 schools that compete each year at the Los Angeles County Courthouse.

For the past 17 years, Ms. Kasababian has also led her students to the National History Day Competition. Her commitment to these students has certainly paid off. This year, out of two million students that competed nationwide, two of her students reached the national competition held at the University of Maryland.

The California Lottery’s distinguished "Exceptional Educator" Award has been presented on "The Big Spin®" television show since April of 2001. The Lottery enlists various Legislators to present these awards which recognize the outstanding teachers whose extraordinary efforts help California students to succeed. This week’s show aired Saturday, December 20, 2003, in 12 television markets statewide.
