SACRAMENTO, October 23, 2003 - Two winning tickets matching all six numbers - 6, 9, 17, 29, 32 and Mega Number 12, split last night's jackpot of $99 million.
The winning tickets, sold in Santa Clara and Los Angeles are each worth $49.5 million. If the winners chose the annuity option, payments for each of the winning tickets will start at $1.2 million before federal withholding and graduate to $2.5 million by the 26th year (there is a 25% federal withholding applied to Lottery prizes). If the winners chose the cash option, the winners would receive a lump sum of roughly half the amount that each ticket is worth. This amount equates to approximately $24.75 million (which is the amount the Lottery invests in U.S. Treasury Bonds to pay the prize over a 26 year period). No state or local taxes are withheld on Lottery prizes.
"Now we wait for the winners to come forward," commented Lottery CEO, Tony Molica. "Some people don't check their numbers right away and some choose to get financial advice before claiming their prize. Either way, it's going to be a great holiday season for these lucky winners!"
Each of the retailers that sold the winning tickets will receive $247,500 or ½ of 1% of each winning ticket or $49.5 million. The winning tickets were sold at Fountain Shellink located at 1309 N. La Brea Avenue in Los Angeles and 7-Eleven located at 815 Bing Drive in Santa Clara. With at least 34% of all Lottery sales going to education, this jackpot generated over $58 million for California's public schools.
Another recent jackpot ticket for the September 10th draw worth $28.5 million has not yet been claimed. The ticket was sold at Kavanagh's Liquors, located at 500 Via Mercado in San Lorenzo. This is the fourth winning jackpot ticket sold at this location making Kavanagh's the luckiest in Northern California.
SuperLotto Plus can be played at more than 18,000 retailer business establishments around the state. The SuperLotto Plus draw takes place each Wednesday and Saturday night at 7:58 p.m. Players can purchase tickets until 7:45 p.m. on the night of the draw.
