Maurice Wiley worked as an administrator, teacher and guidance counselor for Inglewood Unified School District in the Los Angeles area for 30 years. However, in 1989, Wiley won $1 million on "The Big Spin®" show. As a result, Wiley took an early retirement. Nonetheless, instead of taking a traditional retirement, Wiley has continued to work with Inglewood's students.

He donates his time and money to support educational programs that benefit students.

He volunteers with a non-profit organization known as "The Inglewood Educational Foundation." Through this program, Wiley coordinates numerous fairs, luncheons, ribbon cutting ceremonies and fundraisers, all designed to improve Inglewood's schools.

The California Lottery distinguished "Heroes in Education" award is presented monthly on "The Big Spin®" television show. The Lottery enlists various celebrities to present these awards which recognize the "unsung heroes" who devote significant amounts of their time and/or resources to assist their neighborhood schools.
