The California Lottery Announces $46 Million SuperLotto Plus Jackpot

SACRAMENTO — January 16, 2003 -- Lottery officials announced the estimated SuperLotto Plus jackpot for Saturday night's draw at $46 million. "This is a very exciting time to be in California, with a jackpot this large, someone's life could literally change overnight," said Lottery Director Joan Wilson. "Public schools will benefit by this jackpot with an additional $28 million."

A single jackpot winner of $46 million who chooses the 26 graduated annual payments would receive approximately $1,150,000 the first year and $2,346,000 the 26th year (before taxes). A single jackpot winner who chooses the cash option would receive the estimated cash value which is roughly half the announced jackpot or $23 million (before taxes).

On February 16, 2002 the largest jackpot in California Lottery history reached $193 million and was won by 3 winning tickets purchased in Montebello, Orange and Half Moon Bay. Alcario Castellano of San Jose, California made Lottery history when he became the record-breaking highest individual jackpot winner of $141 million on June 23, 2001.
