CALIFORNIA LOTTERY'S $87 MILLION JACKPOT WON IN SAN FRANCISCO, FLORISTON AND INGLEWOOD

SACRAMENTO, March 21, 2002 -- Lottery officials announced that three winning tickets purchased in San Francisco, Floriston and Inglewood, won last night's $87 million jackpot. The lucky numbers drawn for March 20, 2002 were 45, 33, 11, 14, 32 and the MEGA 9. The winning numbers were held by three winning tickets sold in San Francisco at D & T Smoke Shop, 300 Kearny Street; in Floriston at Gold Ranch Lottery, 1 Gold Ranch Road; and in Inglewood at Bank of Scotland Liquor, 5014 W. Century Blvd. Each retailer will receive $145,000 or one half of one percent of the jackpot share.

The Gold Ranch Lottery is consistently one of the Lottery's top selling retailers, and in 2001, was its 3rd highest retailer out of more than 18,000 retailers. Gold Ranch sold $3.3 million in Lottery tickets last year, behind only two other retailers, Primm Valley Lotto Store and Bluebird Liquor.

Each ticket is worth $29 million. The cash value of each ticket equals roughly half of the jackpot share, $14.5 million or the amount the Lottery would invest to payout the jackpot prize over 26 years. The odds of winning any jackpot are one in 41 million. Each of the three tickets paid out over a 26 year period would begin with a first year annual payment of $725,000 and will graduate to $1.4 million by the 26th year.

More than 1,365,934 million tickets won a prize in Wednesday's drawing for the $87 million jackpot. Sixteen tickets won the second prize category of $28,311 for matching 5 numbers. There were 138 tickets that won $1,641 by matching four numbers plus the MEGA number.

Sales from this jackpot of $87 million translate to an additional $47 million for public schools. On February 16, 2002, the largest jackpot in California Lottery history reached $193 and was won by three winning tickets. Alcario Castellano of San Jose, California became the record-breaking highest individual jackpot winner of the second highest jackpot, $141 million, on June 23, 2001. SuperLotto Plus can be played at more than 18,000 retail business establishments around the state. The SuperLotto Plus draw takes place each Wednesday and Saturday night at 7:58 p.m. Players may purchase tickets until 7:45 p.m. on the night of the draw.
