NO SCRATCHING, NO MATCHING, NO TICKETS
Free Entry to Win a Share of $1 Million in Prizes


SACRAMENTO, January 31, 2002 -- The California Lottery announced the details of a Scratchers® $1 Million Drawing offering players a chance to win one of 240 prizes ranging from $1,000 to $25,000. To enter, players should to send in their name, address, phone number and age on a piece of paper or postcard, by Monday, March 18, 2002 to: Scratchers $1 Million Drawing, P.O. Box 5056, Lake Forest, CA 92609-9903.

No scratching, matching, or tickets are required to enter. "We wanted to make it as simple as possible for our Scratchers players to enter and based on player and retailer feedback, this was the easiest way," said Joan Wilson, Director of the California Lottery. "We feel great to be able to offer this goodwill drawing to our Scratchers players."

Winners will be subject to verification of age (must be 18 to play) and must be a California resident. These entries must be received at the address above by Monday, March 18, 2002 to be included in the draw. Multiple entries must be in separate envelopes and entrants can win only once.

The draw will be conducted on Friday, March 22, 2002 in Irvine, California. A total of 240 winners will be drawn and will consist of 10 winners of $25,000 prizes, 30 winners of $10,000 prizes, 40 winners $5,000 prizes, 60 winners of $2,500 prizes and 100 winners of $1,000 prizes.

For more details, logon to the Lottery's web site at www.calottery.com and brochures will be available at the California Lottery's more than 18,000 retailers throughout the state by February 15, 2002.
