SUPERLOTTO JACKPOT RISES TO $68 MILLION Ninth Largest Jackpot In California Lottery 16 Year History
SACRAMENTO, August 30, 2001 -- Lottery officials announced the SuperLotto Plus jackpot for Saturday, September 1, 2001 at $68 million. "Whether you play in a group or on your own, one of the top ten jackpots in Lottery history is up for grabs," said Director Joan Wilson. "The best news is that public schools will receive more than $40.3 million from the draw sales associated with this jackpot."
A single jackpot winner of $68 million would receive 26 annual payments with the first payment equaling approximately $1.7 million and the 26th payment being approximately $3.4 million before taxes. The estimated cash value would equal roughly half of the jackpot, $34 million or the amount the lottery would invest to payout the jackpot prize over 26 years. In the event of the death of a winner, the full prize is paid to the estate of the winner.
Alcario Castellano of San Jose, California made Lottery history when he won the largest jackpot in Lottery history of $141 million on June 23, 2001 making him the largest individual prize winner in California Lottery history. With at least 34% of all Lottery sales going to education, the sales from this jackpot (which has rolled 8 times) will generate an estimated $40.3 million for public education.
Lottery group players can easily organize by logging on to www.calottery.com and clicking on the "group play" section. Lottery players can download forms with jackpot announcements and sign-up sheets for players. Group play agreements are also available to download by searching group play on the home page. A simple binder paper as a sign-up sheet can also be used to sign-up members of an office or other player group. To finalize a group, make copies of the tickets purchased in the name of the group and give copies to the members of the group. For more information phone 1-800-Lottery.
SuperLotto Plus can be played at more than 18,000 retail business establishments around the state. The SuperLotto Plus draw takes place each Wednesday and Saturday night at 7:58 p.m. Players may purchase tickets until 7:45 p.m. on the night of the draw.
