$141 Million Superlotto Plus Mystery Winner Claims Largest Individual Prize Won In California
Largest Jackpot in California Lottery History

Sacramento--Lottery officials announced that Alcario Castellano came forward to claim Saturday's record-breaking $141 million SuperLotto Plus jackpot prize at close of business on Thursday. Castellano discovered that he had won the mega jackpot the day after the draw and waited sleeplessly until late Thursday afternoon to claim the prize at the Lottery's San Francisco District Office.

Castellano came into the San Francisco District Office to claim his prize which makes him the largest individual winner in the California Lottery's history. Castellano who purchased a five dollar ticket at Union Avenue Liquor, chose his own numbers by using Quick Pick. Castellano who plans to hold a press conference in San Jose has not made big plans for his prize money. Castellano said, " I didn't believe that the MEGA 8 would be a winner but it was!"

The numbers drawn for Saturday, June 23 were 3, 22, 43, 44, 45, and MEGA 8. The winning ticket was sold at Union Avenue Liquors, 3649 Union Avenue. The retailer, Alex Wang, will receive $705,000 or one half of one percent of $141 million, making this bonus the largest ever awarded to any retailer in California Lottery history

The winning ticket for the $141 million will be paid out to Castellano as a cash option prize of $70,794,364 million before federal tax withholding of 28%. The $141 million is the largest single ticket prize won in California and the largest individual prize won in the history of the California Lottery. Prior to this the largest individual prize winner in California Lottery history was Sang Cho of Moraga, who won $89 million.

The $141 million jackpot is the largest in California Lottery history and the largest SuperLotto prize since April 17, 1991, when the second largest jackpot of $118 million was split by 10 winning tickets and 54 winners. The California Lottery's SuperLotto Plus game started in June 4, 2000. The game has resulted in a 33% increase in sales so far this fiscal year compared to the year before. This year will be a banner year for the California Lottery closing with an estimate of $2.87 in sales and $1.055 billion in contribution to public schools. This is the largest contribution to the state's schools in the history of the California Lottery.
