SACRAMENTO, June 15, 2001 - The California Lottery introduced its current SuperLotto Plus game on June 4, 2000 and the response has been phenomenal, both with players and for California's public schools.
"We have had nearly 50 million winners with SuperLotto Plus, which is 30 million more than with the old SuperLotto game," explained Marketing Director, James Hasegawa. "Sales are up 20% and our contribution to education will be $1 billion for the 2000/2001 fiscal year alone!" Sales for SuperLotto Plus during the current fiscal year ending June 30, 2001 will reach $1.049 billion. Total Lottery sales for all games for the same period will are expected to reach $2.77 billion.
As luck would have it, California is celebrating the game's 1st anniversary with a $60 million SuperLotto Plus jackpot for Saturday, June 16, 2001. "We knew Californians would like this game, it is what they asked for," said Lottery Director, Joan Wilson. "Not only do we have more winners than ever, but we are giving the highest contribution to education in the Lottery's history!"
A single jackpot winner of $60 million would receive 26 annual payments with the first payment equaling approximately $1.5 million and the 26th payment being approximately $3 million before taxes. The estimated cash value would equal roughly half of the jackpot, $30 million or the amount the lottery would invest to payout the jackpot prize over 26 years. In the event of the death of a winner, the full prize is paid to the estate of the winner.
SuperLotto Plus can be played at more than 18,000 retail business establishments around the state. The SuperLotto Plus draw takes place each Wednesday and Saturday night at 7:58 p.m. Players may purchase tickets until 7:45 p.m. on the night of the draw.
