$45 Million Superlotto Plus Jackpot Helps The California Summer to Sizzle

SACRAMENTO, June 12, 2001 -- Lottery officials announced the estimated SuperLotto Plus jackpot for Wednesday, June 13, 2001, at $45 million. "This is the highest jackpot we've had since our third largest jackpot in March of this year," said Lottery Director Joan Wilson. "This should really help to heat up California to play SuperLotto Plus!"

A single jackpot winner of $45 million who chooses the 26 graduated annual payments would receive approximately $1,125,000 the first year and $2,295,000 the 26th year (before taxes). A single jackpot winner who chooses the cash option would receive the estimated cash value which is roughly half the announced jackpot or $22.5 million (before taxes).

Sang Cho of Moraga, California made Lottery history when she became the record-breaking highest individual jackpot winner of $89 million on March 3, 2001. On April 17, 1991, the largest jackpot in California Lottery history reached $118.8 million and was split by ten winning tickets and 54 winners. The second largest jackpot in Lottery history was won on April 8, 1998 by three winning tickets and 24 winners. With at least 34% of all Lottery sales going to education, the sales from this jackpot (which has rolled 6 times since May 23) will generate an estimated $25 million for public education.

SuperLotto Plus can be played at more than 18,000 retail business establishments around the state. The SuperLotto Plus draw takes place each Wednesday and Saturday night at 7:58 p.m. Players can purchase tickets until 7:45 p.m. on the night of the draw.
