SACRAMENTO, March 15, 2001 -- Lottery officials announced the launch of the California Lottery's latest addition to it's www.calottery.com website. Lottery Director, Joan Wilson said, "Any Californian can easily access the Lottery's contribution to its public schools by city, county or school district. The information is available to anyone anywhere who has access to the world-wide web."
Since its start in 1985, the California Lottery® has contributed $12 billion to public education. Now anyone can find out how much money was distributed to any school district in California by logging on to www.calottery.com. Visitors merely click on the $12 billion icon on the home page. At that point a page entitled "Supporting Education" will appear and the first underlined link will take visitors to the interactive section allowing them to input their city, district or county. This will display the amount contributed to the school district, county or city they designated. Visitors can also download a list identifying the total funds contributed to their district since the inception of the Lottery 15 years ago.
The Lottery contribution is distributed quarterly to each K-12 school district, and to the governing bodies of public colleges and universities. The money is distributed based on enrollment, in equal amounts per student. The Lottery plays no role in deciding how the schools use their Lottery money, that decision is made by each district's administration.
The California Lottery's recent additions to the web site include web-animated Scratchers giving users the ability to play for fun and entertainment on the site. The Lottery's Camelot's Riches is featured along with Pinball Action. The site will soon feature the Lottery's new Harley Davidson Scratchers.
During the California Lottery's recent $89 million Lotto Fever, the site handled a record-breaking 11.8 million hits in a single day. The California Lottery web site continues to grow in popularity with more than a million unique visitors per month accessing the site for information on the California Lottery's products and services.
