"Big Spin® 2000" Revisits Most Memorable Contestants

SACRAMENTO - This week's taping of the California Lottery's "Big Spin® 2000" show revisits some of the most memorable contestants of the Big Spin® 2000 show. The show is scheduled to air Saturday, December 23, 2000, in twelve television markets statewide.

Some of the most exciting moments shown are contestants spinning the wheel to win $1 million. Several million dollar winners are highlighted on this show including: Deanna King of Brentwood who appeared in June of 1999, Sheryl Sellmeyer of Lake Elsinore who appeared in February 2000, and Hesperia resident Shirley Wilkinson who appeared in September 2000. Also featured is the Big Spin® 2000's latest $1 million winner, Remedios Aquino, who won in November 2000 and plans to help build a church in her native country of the Philippines with her prize. A number of winners playing other games from the Big Spin 2000, such as the Fantasy 5 Dream Machine, Fame & Fortune and High Roller, are highlighted this week as well.

The show also features several "Heroes in Education" from across the state. The California Lottery's "Heroes in Education" Program recognizes outstanding volunteers in the community. Through their dedication and efforts, California's students receive enrichment opportunities that may not have been available without these volunteers. The "Heroes in Education" Program exemplifies that support for California's schools comes in many different and innovative ways and the award is presented by a community leader and/or a celebrity.

The California Lottery sells its products through a network of more than 18,000 outlets statewide. The Lottery provides 52.5 percent of its revenues to players as prizes, 34 percent to public schools and 14 percent for administrative expenses, which includes 6.8 percent for retailer commissions. Since 1985, the Lottery has raised more than $12 billion for public schools. The California Lottery's contribution equals approximately 2 percent of the state's total education budget. "Big Spin® 2000" is the longest running Lottery game show in the country, airing continuously since 1985.
