JACKPOT ADVISORY -- SUPERLOTTO PLUS JACKPOT RISES TO $60 MILLION
California Has the Largest Jackpot in the Nation

SACRAMENTO, October 16, 2000 -- Lottery officials announced the SuperLotto Plus jackpot for Wednesday, October 18, 2000 at $60 million. "It's very exciting that the California Lottery has the highest Lottery jackpot in the nation, even higher than the multi-state games like 'PowerBall' and 'The Big Game'," said Lottery Director, Joan Wilson. "The most exciting point is that public education will receive more than $35 million from the draw sales associated with this jackpot."

A single jackpot winner of $60 million would receive 26 annual payments with the first payment equaling approximately $1.5 million and the 26th payment being approximately $3 million before taxes. The estimated cash value would equal roughly half of the jackpot, $30 million or the amount the lottery would invest to payout the jackpot prize over 26 years. In the event of the death of a winner, the full prize is paid to the estate of the winner.

On April 17, 1991, the largest jackpot in California Lottery history reached $118.8 million and was won by 10 winning tickets and 54 winners. Juanita Colla of San Francisco, California made Lottery history when she became the record-breaking highest individual jackpot winner of $88 million on August 16, 2000.

With at least 34% of all Lottery sales going to education, the sales from this jackpot (which has rolled 7 times) will generate an estimated $35 million for public education.

SuperLotto Plus can be played at more than 18,000 retail business establishments around the state. The SuperLotto Plus draw takes place each Wednesday and Saturday night at 7:58 p.m. Players may purchase tickets until 7:45 p.m. on the night of the draw.
