$1 Million Weekly Grand Prize Winner Los Banos Resident wins $95,000 Playing FantasyTM 5 Dream Machine

SACRAMENTO -- California Lottery's "Big Spin® 2000" show airs Saturday, September 30, 2000, in twelve television markets statewide. Contestants on this week's show won a total of $1,337,500.

The California Lottery will announce the newest "Weekly Grand" winner on this week's show. The winner will receive $1,000 per week for the next 20 years, which totals over $1 million.

"I'm going to take a fishing trip to Alaska and help my daughters," said Freddie Patterson of Los Banos. Patterson won $95,000 playing the Fantasy 5 "Dream Machine." Placentia resident Geraldine Knutson won $45,000 on the Dream Machine and plans to use her prize money for a daycare center and home improvements.

California Gold contestants won a combined total of $97,500. Dorothy Warner of Inglewood was the top winner with $75,000 after buying her first California Gold Scratchers®. "My husband and I are just going to have fun with it," she said.

Teresita Manalang bought a "Big Spin" Scratchers ticket that revealed three "SPIN" symbols on it. That ticket entitled the San Francisco resident to spin the largest prize wheel in the world. Manalang spun the wheel and won $60,000. She plans to vacation with her prize money.

The California Lottery sells its products through a network of more than 18,000 outlets statewide. The Lottery provides 52.5 percent of its revenues to players as prizes, 34 percent to public schools and 14 percent for administrative expenses, which include 6.9 percent for retailer commissions, 3.6 percent for operating expenses and 3 % for game costs. Since 1985, the Lottery has raised more than $12 billion for public schools. "Big Spin® 2000" is the longest running Lottery game show in the country, airing continuously since 1985.
