"Contestants On "Big Spin® 2000" Win $155,000 Actor Adam West Presents "Hero In Education" Award

SACRAMENTO -- California Lottery's "Big Spin® 2000" show airs Saturday, July 29 2000 in twelve television markets statewide. Contestants on this week's show won a total of $155,000.

Bakersfield resident Dolores Cleveland keeps herself "busy" by helping others. Ms. Cleveland, and 86 year old grandmother, begins her week at the Stockdale Elementary School where she coordinates an advanced reading class for second graders, "The Magic Kingdom Reading Club", a read at home program. Students discuss what they've read and paint pictures onto T-shirts portraying the books they read. By the end of the year, students have a mural of what they've read and created. Cleveland also participates in a puppet show that helps young children at the Mercy Southwest Hospital. Actor Adam West, who is best known as "Batman", presented Cleveland with the "Hero In Education" award. Adam West said he would like to see children more concerned with sufficiency rather than burning out trying to be the fastest in life.

Fantasy^TM 5 contestant Louis Ziliotto of Whittier is expecting his first grandchild. Ziliotto won $25,000 on the Fantasy 5^TM Dream Machine and plans to use part of the money he won for his grandchild.

This week's show hosted two California Gold games. Angelia Crespin of Lawndale won $60,000 and Pomona resident Beatriz Arellano won $25,000. Crespin plans to pay bills with her prize money and put the rest into savings. Other California Gold contestants won a combined total of $45,000.

The California Lottery sells its products through a network of more than 18,000 outlets statewide. The Lottery provides 52.5 percent of its revenues to players as prizes, 34 percent to public schools and 14 percent for administrative expenses, which includes 6.8 percent for retailer commissions. Since 1985, the Lottery has raised more than $11 billion for public schools. The California Lottery's contribution equals approximately 2 percent of the state's total education budget. "Big Spin® 2000" is the longest running Lottery game show in the country, airing continuously since 1985.
