Folsom Resident Wins $1 Million On "Big Spin® 2000" Show

SACRAMENTO -- California Lottery's "Big Spin® 2000" show airs Saturday, July 8, 2000 in twelve television markets statewide. Contestants on this week's show won a total of $1,252,500.

Folsom resident Denise Hamma bought a Big Spin Scratchers® ticket that won her a direct trip to the Big Spin® 2000 show. Once at the show, Hamma won $1 million! Hamma plans on purchasing a house with her prize and wants to buy her nieces a "space bug," a popular toy. Other California Gold contestants won a combined total of $22,500.

"I want to buy a new car and put the rest of my prize money away for my children's education," said Maryann Herranz of San Francisco. Herranz won $70,000 playing the Fantasy 5
TM Dream Machine. "I'm going to take my family on a trip," said David McCosker of Concord after winning $65,000 on the Dream Machine. Fantasy 5 contestant Carmelita De Jesus of Palo Alto said, "I'm a good cook." De Jesus plans to show her culinary talent when she opens up her own restaurant with the $25,000 she won.

James Dahlia of N. Hollywood won $25,000 as this week's top High Roller contestant, while Frances Holguin of Bakersfield won $5,000.

Business owner Refugio Ortiz of Whittier, got three "Spin" symbols on a "Big Spin 2000" Scratchers® ticket. That ticket got Ortiz a direct trip to the show. Once at the show, Ortiz spun the prize wheel and won $40,000. Ortiz plans to expand his business with the prize money he won. He would also like to remodel his home and put some money away for his children's education.

The California Lottery sells its products through a network of more than 18,000 outlets statewide. The Lottery provides 52.5 percent of its revenues to players as prizes, 34 percent to public schools and 14 percent for administrative expenses, which includes 6.8 percent for retailer commissions. Since 1985, the Lottery has raised more than $11 billion for public schools. The California Lottery's contribution equals approximately 2 percent of the state's total education budget. "Big Spin® 2000" is the longest running Lottery game show in the country, airing continuously since 1985.
